MPH Global Health Track
The Global Health Track within the Master of Public Health Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine
Bringing practical solutions to the health problems of underserved and neglected populations in resource poor settings worldwide
Many of the greatest challenges in public health are global. Society needs global health experts and individuals with a sense of responsibility towards populations lacking adequate access to health care. These experts are in demand for the health problems of the future and have to be trained. The mission of the new Global Health Track is to prepare students to face this challenges and bring positive lasting chance for underserved populations.
The new Global Health track is part of the MPH program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Lecturers are recruited from the fields of medicine, public health and the social sciences, experts from NGOs and government policy makers. The courses are designed to give students a thorough understanding of the principles of health, development, globalization and human rights, and the arguments surrounding their interactions. They cover a huge variety of subjects from essential drugs to asylum seekers, from the environmental impact of global communicable diseases to global trade, humanitarian aid and military intervention. Students learn practical skills to work successfully in various settings with diverse populations. With constant interaction between students and instructors, discussion and debate are important features of the course. In many instances, students are free to explore areas that particularly interest them. This flexibility, combined with the diversity of the instructors' expertise, makes for a dynamic and varied program.
