Contact : Dr. Jon Ripp (jonathan.ripp@mssm.edu)
Suitable for: MS3, MS4, residents

For students with a particular interest in education, there is an opportunity to assist in the teaching of a basic curriculum in Public Health at a local tribal college. The Spirit Lake Nation belongs to the Dakota tribe, formerly referred to as the Sioux. The tribal college associated with this tribe provides two-year degrees to local students in a variety of subjects. The college president is interested in improving Native American Health through increasing the numbers of Native American health care providers who are willing and interested in caring for their own communities. The medical student elective will consist of teaching basic public health classes as well as rotating through the Indian Health Services clinic. No previous additional public knowledge is necessary. For more details, please contact Jon Ripp from the Global Health Center at jonathan.ripp@mssm.edu.
